How to pick between a portable Hard Drive and an Internal Hard Drive

If you've used a computer for any distance of time, you will probably have noticed that computer files seem to be getting bigger and bigger. It isn't uncommon to find yourself running low on space and having to delete files. The other choice, of course, is to add other hard drive.

When it comes to purchasing a new drive you can select to whether get one that will fit inside the computer, or an external one that uses a cable to associate up to the computer. Which one is better depends on a few separate factors:

Speed. An internal drive will most likely be much faster, due to the connectors used. That doesn't mean to say that external drives are slow, a decent Usb 2.0 connection will be speedy sufficient for most people.






Size. Internal drives are ready in much larger sizes: it's easy to find a 2Tb hard drive. External drives, at the moment, max out at 1Tb.

Power. Internal drives get their power directly from the computer's power supply. External drives vary - some require their own power connection other plainly use the power ready through a Usb connection.

Portability. A hard drive that is fixed inside the computer obviously isn't very portable! If you would like to use the drive with complicated computers then an external drive is the only option.

Connection. There are a few separate types of internal drive ready such as: Ide, Sata and Scsi. Which one you can use will depend on the computer's motherboard. Most external drives, these days, use a acceptable Usb connector that can be used with most types of computer.
